Over the last several weeks we have examined the six pieces of spiritual armor mentioned Ephesians 6:12-17. They represent the character of Christ that is being reproduced in us by God. Our spiritual warfare is against three opponents: the fallen world system; our own sinful nature, and the devil himself who leads an evil spiritual kingdom. To face these enemies we have many assets that God has given us in our salvation, mentioned in Ephesians: He has sealed us by his Spirit, who is in us to enlighten our hearts in the knowledge and power of God (Ephesians 1:17-19); By grace he has given us salvation through faith, by which we are given a new exalted position and a high purpose (Ephesians 2:5-10); He has given us his Word to teach us and to strengthen our faith (Ephesians 3:1-6); He has given us a new nature at our salvation, "created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness" (Ephesians 4:24); He has given us the church, the body of believers, to encourage one another (Ephesians 4:1-11). Today we are examining the Helmet of Salvation: the firm sign of our election and salvation in Christ. We care not enter into any temptation wearing the "helmet of pride" or the "helmet of our own good works." There is no safety there. But receiving the helmet of salvation assures us of God's protection and strength as we face temptation. - Pastor David Packer
